It's GIVEAWAY time! Win a copy of Big Cities Little Foodies book.

Updated: Dec 18, 2019

When should you start reading to your baby?

When you have a newborn, and he can barely hold up his head or see further than 30cm, you do wonder when is the right time to start reading to your baby.

The answer is right from the start. Even though it might seem silly to read to your newborn, research shows that reading to your newborn helps them recognise the sounds and rhythm of language. So even though they show no interest in the books at the beginning, don't be discouraged. Just keep doing it every day as part of their routine, soon they will start to show interest in the colours and storytime.

For Joshua, I felt 3 months was the turning point. Before that, he just didn't show much interest in it at all. Now, he loves storytime. We read to him every night before bed, and whenever he is fussy, I will read him a book, and he seems to feel a lot more settled afterward. It is also a great activity for daddy baby bonding time. I love hearing my husband read to Joshua, it is the cutest thing ever, especially when he makes sound effects to go with it.

As September is International Literacy Month, I have teamed up with Big Cities Little Foodies for a GiveAway. Big Cities Little Foodies "Hong Kong" is created by two mums Cheryl Yau Chepusova and Isabel Foo. This vibrant book showcase Hong Kong cuisines, where your little one can learn and explore their culture through food. (Which is a big part of Chinese culture.)

I really like this book because I am a massive foodie myself, but it is also a great book to bring with you when you are out and about. As you can show your little one what is illustrated in the book when you go out and eat. Giving them a better concept of what is written in the book.
